Breathing much needed new life into this traditional church space. The brief was simple, create a beautiful, yet functional space to be shared by all. The client needed to work within a tight budget but with stunning features to enhance the church and revamp the space.

An elevated stage and feature wall allows the elements of the design to pop while handcrafted Victorian Ash arches celebrate and express the symbolic value of traditional church architecture. Modern elements were also included to give that unmistakable touch of sophistication and style. The solid battens and rendered accents harmonically interact to provide contrast and eye-catching details to this refined urban space. The use of natural materials creates a light and bright space.

Functionality was also important in this concept, with five-metre concealed sliding doors installed to close the stage off when it is not in use. Allowing the space to become transformed for different needs.

The feature wall is certainly the focal point of the room, with beaming light illuminating the cross in a stunning manner. It was important that the curves and arches of the design stayed true to tradition while offering stunning focal points. Timeframes were also the main component as the Church needed to be utilised for services.

Budget and deadlines were easily overcome with clever design and locally sourced materials to ensure the project was completed on time. All the joinery elements were detailed to facilitate complete prefabrication of all elements to reduce the on-site disruption.

The concrete render look was achieved over an MDF substrate instead of forming the arches with concrete, this allowed the project to stay within budget while giving the same sensational outcome. The modular designed wall panels and arches were achieved using the Lamello System, the original for efficient, intuitive, and precise joints.

A classic and timeless design that provides a new and refurbished fresh look that will be enjoyed for many decades to come.
