The Melbourne Star – a shining grace in the sky allowing customers a bird's eye view of the incredible sights and lights of the city. The brief was simple; create a unique space to entice customers and excite them on their journey over the rooftops of the Melbourne Docklands.
Nestled at the base of the Melbourne Star the space needed to shine as brightly as the city itself. Custom joinery was needed to nestle an array of products while creating an exciting and enthralling environment for the London Eye inspired ride to follow.
The joinery needed to keep with the ‘flight deck’ theme and mimic that of a departure and arrivals area. It needed to be inviting, and eye-catching while alluring a sense of warmth and space.
The use of birch plywood cabinetry and peg boards brightens the space and is a great contrast to the bold black conveyor belt display. Sharp lines contrast against the curvature of the custom joinery simply dazzles the eye and adds to the overall fun feeling of the space.
The peg boards are also very versatile and allow for different shelf heights that can be easily changed, while the illuminating lights behind add a polka-dot effect that is fun and glittering to the senses. The natural feeling and warmth of the wood are lifted with black flooring and allow the custom-built conveyor belt display to become the main focal point of the space. With so many interesting features the use of black grounds the space and ensures the eye follows the feature accents of the whole area.
Plyboard is also light and bright and allows all of the products on shelves to be perfectly illustrated to encourage customers towards gifts and memorabilia of their exciting skyward adventure.
A wonderful example of an exciting and unique design concept that can not only look incredible but also be extremely functional for its intended purpose.
