With sweeping views of the countryside, the terrace bar at Marnong Estate needed to encapsulate the picturesque views while also emphasising the natural colours and elements of this stunning setting.
Combining the natural elements of the area alongside an urban modern design. The colour and material palette are drawn from the stunning Australian landscape surrounding the property. It embodies the warmth and authenticity of the Melbourne hospitality sector while providing an unparalleled destination for locals, visitors, and tourists.
European Oak lime-washed tabletops are custom made and beautifully finished with modern black steel legs. The rebated edge adds a sense of luxury and refinement allowing the whole look to cleverly ground and appear light. The Blackbutt timber seating, planter boxes, and tabletops were handcrafted offsite and beautifully finished with Cutek oil. Once assembled, the vertical lines allow your eyes to draw to the sweeping views of the sprawling Australian countryside.
Natural Australian-made products were a must for this concept as too a functional and very practical approach. The clients wanted low-maintenance products and finishes while looking simply stunning. Proving that functionality does not need to comprise outstanding and inviting design.
Utilising solid contoured timber profiles for the clad walls adds depth, warmth, and an element of height. The same concept was carried through all joinery elements of Marnong Estate with semi-outdoor banquette seating. The curved organic shapes allow the inside to flow perfectly within its natural surroundings including steel arch doors. These were manufactured and installed to create a sense of calm and seclusion from the busy life in Melbourne.
With multipurpose spaces throughout all furniture needed to be designed to be easily movable or fixed to effortlessly transform regardless of the event taking place. All table tops are foldable so they can be stacked and quickly stored when the area is being utilised for conferences or other functions.
The 25m long outdoor seating was manufactured in small sections using a steel frame and Tricoya. Units were fully polished and dry-fitted and assembled on-site in less than six hours to minimise interruption to the operations of the venue.
